In short: we collect very little. There are no user accounts, no comments, no payments and no newsletter. We use Google Analytics only if you allow it, we do not sell personal information, and we use what you send through the contact form only to answer you. This page explains the details and how to use your rights, wherever you live.
Who we are and what this policy covers
This policy applies to the website https://dailyfact.net/ (the “Site”), which is operated under the name DailyFact.net (“DailyFact”, “we”, “us”). We decide why and how personal information collected through the Site is used. That makes us the “data fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”) and the “controller” under the EU and UK GDPR.
You can contact us about privacy at contact [at] dailyfact [dot] net or through our contact form. Please put “Privacy” in the subject line or message.
We aim to follow the laws that apply to a general-audience website with visitors around the world, including the DPDP Act and the Information Technology Act, 2000 (India), the GDPR and UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. India’s DPDP Rules, 2025 bring most DPDP Act duties into force in stages, with the main obligations due from May 13, 2027; we already follow their principles of clear notice, purpose limitation, data minimization and easy withdrawal of consent.
What we collect, why, and on what basis
| Information | When it is collected | Why we use it | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server and security logs: IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, date and time, referring page | Automatically, whenever a page loads. Kept by our hosting provider. | To deliver the Site, keep it secure, stop abuse and fix faults. | GDPR: legitimate interests. DPDP: legitimate use (providing the service you requested). |
| Analytics data: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, how you arrived, and cookie identifiers, collected by Google Analytics 4 | Only if you accept the Analytics category in our cookie banner. | To see which articles help readers and improve the Site. | Consent (GDPR and DPDP). You can withdraw it at any time. |
| Your cookie choices: a small record of what you accepted or declined | When you use the cookie banner. | To remember your choice and respect it on later visits. | GDPR: legitimate interests / strictly necessary. DPDP: legitimate use. |
| Contact form messages: your name, your message, your email address if you choose to give one, and the page the form was sent from | When you submit the contact form. | To read and reply to your message, handle corrections and privacy requests, and keep a record of correspondence. | GDPR: legitimate interests, or legal obligation for rights requests. DPDP: legitimate use (you voluntarily gave the data for this purpose). |
| Emails you send us at our contact address | When you email us. | Same as the contact form. | Same as the contact form. |
We do not ask you to create an account. Comments on the Site are closed, so we do not publish visitor comments. We do not take payments, run a newsletter or knowingly collect sensitive personal information. Please do not put health, financial or other sensitive details in a contact message.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Site does not set any cookies until you interact with the cookie banner. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage (as df_theme) so the Site can remember it; it is not sent to us. Cookies for analytics, and for advertising if we introduce it, stay off until you say yes. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer. Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie, what it does and how long it lasts.
The Site uses your device’s own fonts, so it does not load fonts from a third-party font service.
Advertising and affiliate links
Today the Site shows no advertising and contains no affiliate links. We expect to begin using Google AdSense and affiliate programs, including Amazon Associates, in the coming weeks. Our Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure shows the current status and will be updated when each starts.
Once we turn on Google AdSense, this is how it will work:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or visit www.aboutads.info to opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising. See also How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, personalized advertising will be shown only with your consent, collected through a consent tool that meets Google’s requirements.
When you click an affiliate link, you go to another company’s website. That company, for example Amazon, may set its own cookies and records the visit so we can be credited. Its own privacy policy then applies.
Who receives information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described here:
- Google (Google Analytics 4, and Google AdSense once enabled): analytics only with your consent, as explained below. See Google’s Privacy Policy. You can also install Google’s browser opt-out add-on.
- Our hosting provider and related infrastructure: to serve the Site and keep it secure, including the server logs above.
- Our email service: contact form messages are sent to us by email, so they pass through our email system.
- Servers of other websites: some older articles show images loaded directly from other organizations’ servers. When your browser loads one of those images, that server receives your IP address and basic browser details, as with any website. We are replacing these images with ones we host ourselves.
- Authorities and advisers: where the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or to professional advisers under a duty of confidence.
The contact form is provided by the WPForms plugin running on our own website. The version we use does not save form entries in the website’s database; it emails them to us. We do not send your messages to any separate form service.
If you decline analytics. Google Analytics will not set its cookies. The Site still loads Google’s tag in “consent mode”, so your browser may still contact Google’s servers and Google may receive limited signals, such as that a page was loaded, without cookies or an advertising identifier. As with any web request, that includes your IP address. If you prefer that nothing at all reaches Google, use a tracker-blocking browser or Google’s opt-out add-on.
International transfers
Google and our other providers process information in several countries, including the United States and India. The DPDP Act allows transfers of personal data outside India except to countries the Government of India restricts. For visitors in the EEA and UK, transfers rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or an adequacy framework such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Each provider publishes its own details.
How long we keep information
- Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for the short period its policy sets, normally weeks, then deleted or overwritten.
- Analytics data: kept by Google for the retention period set in our account, which is never longer than 14 months.
- Cookie choice record: up to 180 days, after which we ask again.
- Contact messages and emails: until your request is dealt with, then deleted within 12 months, unless we need to keep them longer to meet a legal duty or to defend a legal claim.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and why, and give you a summary or copy;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- erase information we no longer need;
- stop using information, or object to our use of it, where the law allows;
- withdraw consent you have given. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it, and does not affect what we did before you withdrew.
How to ask. Email contact [at] dailyfact [dot] net or use the contact form. We may ask you to confirm who you are, so that we do not give your information to someone else. We aim to reply within 30 days, and in any case within the time the law allows (one month under the GDPR, which can be extended in some cases; no more than 90 days for grievances under India’s DPDP Rules). We do not charge a fee for ordinary requests and we do not treat you differently for using your rights.
India (DPDP Act). You have the rights above, the right to nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to, and the right to have a grievance dealt with. Using our contact route above is the first step.
EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). You also have the right to data portability, to restrict processing, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
California and other US states. Depending on where you live and the size of the business, state laws give rights to know, correct and delete personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. To our knowledge we have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics. If that changes, for example when advertising begins, we will update this policy and provide a clear opt-out before it takes effect. You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
Canada, Australia and elsewhere. If you live in a country with its own privacy law, such as Canada or Australia, we apply the rights above to you as well and will respond as that law requires.
Complaints
Please contact us first so we can try to fix the problem. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India (once it is operating and you have first used our grievance route), to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk), or, in the US, to your state attorney general.
Children
The Site is a general-audience publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 (the age of majority for the DPDP Act) without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian, and we do not track children or target advertising at them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
Security and breaches
The Site is served over HTTPS and we use reasonable security measures, such as software updates, access controls and spam protection. No system is completely secure. If a breach of personal information affects you, we will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their policies.
Browser signals
Because analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you accept them, a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal does not change what we set today. Before we begin any advertising that involves sale or sharing under US state law, we will honor opt-out preference signals as those laws require.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices or the law change, and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information in a significant way, such as introducing advertising cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner where consent is required.
